Working Towards Next Years People’s Media Awards

Posted by Kelly Spies On January - 20 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

If you’ve missed the boat this year, (like I did) and haven’t put much work into your content or staying abreast the happenings at Associated Content, or you joined the game too late in the season to be nominated for a People’s Media Award, don’t give up.  There’s always next year.  Here are a few tips to get you moving towards next years People’s Media Awards.

Quantity vs Quality. In order to qualify for a nomination for the PMAs Associated Content requires that you publish at least a minimum of one article.  Although that is a very low number of articles to publish, those who write and publish consistently stand a better chance of getting nominated than those who publish occasionally.

Your best bet is to write, submit and publish consistently.  Set a goal for yourself, whether that be to write one article a day, a week or a month.  Then stick to that goal and actually do it.

When it comes to the People’s Media Awards quality wins hands down over quantity as long as you meet the required number of published articles.  Edit your articles for grammar, spelling and other errors.  Make sure you have your facts straight and provide references to examples and quotes you may have used.

Topic Choice. Considering the fact that Associated Content is a platform for writers of all types, the best way to work towards receiving a nomination for a PMA is choose your topics wisely.  Choose topics that the majority of people would be interested in reading about.  (Notice I didn’t say agree with)  Sometimes writing about a topic you find interesting doesn’t mean anyone else will find it interesting. If your topic is boring, or flooding the internet then it may never get read at all.  A perfect example of this is the article I wrote, Recycled Beer Makes Its Mark on Green Living.  Written in August of 2008, it has only 77 page views to date.  I thought it was an interesting topic but apparently nobody else did.

Keeping Up. Whatever you do, stay active at Associated Content.  Taking a sabbatical is never a good thing if you are trying to earn a PMA nomination.  Keep posting comments on other’s articles, stay social in the forums and continue to reach out to other content producers – now called contributors.

Getting Known.  You can write the best articles in the world but unless the world knows you’re writing them, they are useless to anyone but yourself.  Be sure to promote your articles through twitter, the AC forums, blogs and message boards.

If none of these tips work for you, try, try again.  Even if you don’t get nominated for a PMA you are still building your reader list, earning page views and bettering your writing skills.  Good luck you!

Associated Content Spotlight Blog Carnival

Posted by Kelly Spies On January - 9 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

If you’ve never participated in a Blog Carnival now’s your chance. It’s simple to do, only takes a few minutes, and is a good way to share links. You can either post a link to a specific article on your blog or to the blog itself.

The preferred option for Blog Carnivals is to post links to articles rather than just the whole blog but hey, whatever floats your boat.

So I’m kicking off AC Spotlight’s first ever blog carnival and asking those of you who have Associated Content blogs to submit. If there’s enough submissions I’ll make this a regular monthly or bi-monthly thing.

I’m Back and It’s Time to Update this Thing

Posted by Kelly Spies On January - 3 - 2010 1 COMMENT

Here I am, back to blogging about Associated Content.  It’s about time, right?  Over the next week or so I’ll be updating and changing this blog so check back soon for new posts and a new design.

You will see missing images from time to time as I update and work on the new design.  You may see some garbled text and bits of code as well.

Please be patient while I update this blog.  Hopefully I should have it finished and back on track in a week or so.
